It has been a shock to the game enthusiasts across the country that the popular game of BGMI has suddenly went offline from Google and Apple Play store. Though there has been no official clarification issued neither from nor from Krafton, the game developers, about the delisting of game from Apple and Android play store it is widely reported that the gaming application was banned by the Central Government. The reason for the ban imposed has also not been made official though leading news agency Reuters reports that the ban was issued due data sharing concerns. The question that arises is whether government can impose ban on such applications? The answer is yes. Section 69A of the Information Technology Act, 2000 entitles the government to issue directions to block public access to any information through computer resource. The government can impose ban on public access to any information to any web site or any applications on grounds of maintaining sovereignty and integrity of nation, security of nation, friendly relations with other state, defense of state, public order or prevention of incitement of any crime. Yes, what you are thinking is right, it is using the same power that the government imposed ban on 58 Chinese applications due to tension with China and this included the most celebrated Pub G. It is known to almost all gaming freaks that BGMI is nothing but the rebranded version of Pub G itself.

WHAT TO EXPECT?

Since no official clarification has been issued by the Central Government, it has to be understood that no permanent ban has been embarked upon your favorite BGMI. The Krafton might have been notified about the ban and might have been asked to present their explanation. the matter to be worried is that if the government has imposed such a ban, they are not obligated to disclose the reason for their ban which makes it difficult for the other parties to even challenge such bans in courts. With the decision of ban on BGMI practically in hands of the government, the future of the gaming application will be determined in the coming days.
