Realme book and Mi Notebook pro review - the new players in the thin and light Segment.

Apple blew the Internet away with their M1 macbooks, right!. These macbooks were powerful and light. What if you wanted a thin and light laptop but don't have the budget for a macbook. Then we got you covered. Let's take a look at the newly released Mi Notebook Pro and realme Book.

Both Laptops are pretty much similar. First we will cover what both have in common:

-Aluminium body

-100% sRGB Colour Gamut Display

-Stereo Speakers

-FIngerprint Power Button

-65W usb-c charging

-Backlit Keyboard

-3.5mm Headphone jack( Yes its there)

-NVMe SSD Storage

Now let's take a detailed dive:

1. Mi Notebook Pro

It looks just like a macbook if not for the xiaomi branding. The device weights around 1.46kg. The 14inch display comes at a resolution of 2560*1600(2.5k ish) with 215 ppi. All the variants come with 512gb of NVMe SSD Storage. It supports bluetooth v5.1 and WIFI 6 enabling faster connection and network speed. Xiaomi is claiming 11-hour all day battery(local playback). Unlike the previous Mi notebooks we have an inbuilt 720p webcam. Something people opting for these light laptops have to sacrifice is the ports. But Xiaomi has seen to it that we get all the ports we need. The device comes with 1 x Type-C™ USB,1 x Thunderbolt 4,1 x Type-A USB 3.2 Gen 1,1 x Type-A USB 2.0,1 x HDMI,1 x Combo Audio Jack.

Till know we haven't talked about the processor. The Mi Notebook Pro is powered by 11th generation Intel i7(11370H)/i5(11300H) processors. The 11th generation Intel processors comes with the New Intel Iris Xe Graphics which Intel claims to be better than the UHD graphics by a longshot. Haven't personally tried the Iris graphics yet but I think they will give you decent graphics performace. Upto 16gb ram is supported. The notebook comes in three variants -i5/8gb,i5/16gb and i7/16gb. The Mi Notebook Pro starts at Rs.56,999.

2. realme Book

The realme book sports a thin aluminum body and weights about 1.38kg. Unlike

the Mi Notebook Pro there are two color variants - Real Gray and Real Blue. It also has a 14inch display but comes at a resolution of 2160*1440. Only 8gb variant is available. A 16gb model would have been nice addition if you plan on doing serious workloads. Realme is providing an i3/256gb model and i5/512gb model. The i3 variant supports bluetooth v5.1 and WIFI 5 only whereas the i5 variant supports bluetooth v5.2 and WIFI 6. Realme is also claiming upto 11-hour of local playback. The device comes with 2 x USB-C 3.2 Gen 2, 1 x USB-A 3.1 Gen 1, 1 x Combo Audio Jack for the i3 model and 1 x Thunderbolt 4/ USB 4, 1 x USB-C 3.2 Gen 21 x USB-A 3.1 Gen 1, 1 x Combo Audio Jack for the i5 model.

The processors provided here the 11th

generation models coming with Iris graphics. The i3-1115G4 Processor(Dual core) and the i5-1135G7 Processor(Quad Core) has a clock speed of 3Ghz and 2.4Ghz respectively. However comparing with the Mi Notebook i5-11300H processor the i5-1135G7 of the realme Book(i5/512gb) is underpowered. The Realme books costs Rs.46,999 for the i3/256gb variant and Rs.59,999 for the i5/512gb variant.

Both these laptops can hold their own in terms of build and performance. In terms of price and value for money the Mi Notebook Pro i5 variant is the right choice compared to the realme Book but in the current Flipkart BBD sale at 53k, the realme book offers much in terms of price to performance ratio than the Mi notebook pro . But if you don't have the budget for the i5 or i7 variants then the Realme Book i3 is a great choice in that segment. Please do note that it is a separate laptop itself with a different set of internals.
